The spectrum of energy emitted by the sun includes the ultraviolet band. Within the ultraviolet band, the wavelength of 253.7 nm acts as a potent germicide.
Energy at this wavelength permeates microorganisms and disrupts cells' ability to replicate DNA. Unable to reproduce, pathogens such as bacteria, viruses and spores, are killed.

VIGILAIR® Systems use low pressure mercury vapor tubes to produce the wavelength of energy that is lethal to microorganisms. These lights are positioned inside air handlers to irradiate the cooling coils of ventilation systems.
Design is key to the effectiveness of this system. VIGILAIR® system lamps are engineered to emit maximum UV light intensity under HVAC conditions (e.g. low temperature, high air velocities). Independent testing proves our system lights produce 3 to 5 times the UV energy of our competitors' lights.
